The global demand for UPS systems is surging, reflecting a growing reliance on stable, secure, and uninterruptible power infrastructure across key sectors such as IT, manufacturing, healthcare, and telecoms.
Industry leaders such as Hitachi, Vertiv, Riello, Yuasa, Fiamm, Enersys, and Mitsubishi are investing heavily in innovation in UPS systems. But while suppliers continue to push the envelope in UPS technology, businesses need a specialist partner to ensure those systems are installed, maintained, and managed properly.
In this blog, we explore two recent innovations in UPS systems, and how they play a critical role in keeping the country’s lights on.
How the SMART PDU I-Type Enhances UPS Battery Performance in Critical Environments
Integrating smarter power distribution for stronger UPS battery performance, Delta’s SMART PDU I-Type is designed to maximise energy efficiency.
Here’s how it supports your power strategy:
- Real-Time Power Control: With up to 21 programmable breakers, it helps manage load distribution and reduces strain on your UPS battery, extending lifespan and cutting replacement costs.
- Space-Saving and Scalable: Its compact 1U design and modular build make it ideal for growing operations without compromising rack space or UPS performance.
- Remote Monitoring: Integrated with Eltek’s Smartpack controller, it provides real-time system insights, supporting proactive UPS maintenance and early fault detection.
- Load Prioritisation: In multi-tenant sites, it ensures critical systems stay powered, reducing unnecessary battery usage during outages.
- Boosts Efficiency and Sustainability: By controlling energy flow and cutting waste, it promotes longer-lasting UPS battery health and lowers operational costs.
The UPS battery is still the backbone of backup power. But with tools like the SMART PDU I-Type and professional services like UPS installation, battery replacement, and system monitoring, your infrastructure is better protected and future-ready.
Vodafone Launches New Broadband Battery Backup to Keep Customers Connected During Power Cuts
Vodafone has unveiled a new Broadband Battery Backup device designed to keep home internet running during power outages. Developed in partnership with BT, KCOM, and Zen Internet, this compact unit automatically switches from mains power to battery in the event of a power cut, ensuring continued broadband connectivity for up to 7 hours, depending on usage.
The importance of battery backup systems like this one cannot be overstated. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and backup batteries play a critical role in maintaining essential services during power cuts. They help avoid disruptions to communication, support remote working and learning, and ensure that safety-critical systems such as personal alarms and monitoring systems remain operational. As homes become increasingly reliant on digital services, having a reliable source of backup power is essential.
Vodafone’s new device exceeds Ofcom’s minimum requirement for an hour’s worth of backup for landline-dependent users. It even includes an emergency mode that reserves 25% of its battery capacity for critical use. Made from 95% recycled plastic, it also features a USB-C port to charge mobile devices during outages.
The Broadband Battery Backup will be provided free of charge to vulnerable customers who rely on their landline for essential services. For other customers, it will be available to purchase for £150.
This launch reinforces the industry’s commitment to customer resilience, highlighting how essential UPS systems are across all sectors to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and vital communication, even during power outages.
