How long have you been working with BCL Power?
20 Years 8 Months. A Lifetime!
Tell us a bit about your background and what led you to join BCL Power:
I’ve always been intrigued by electronics from a young age, I happened upon a job opening at BCL whilst I was completing my basic electrical course with British Gas.
What do you enjoy most about working at BCL Power?
The varied days! No day/site/job is the same, and there is always something new to learn. It’s an ever-evolving industry that’s constantly changing with new technologies. From legacy DC battery systems from the 80s, PWM, rectifiers, and inverters to UPS cutting-edge technology today, I find it all interesting.
How has BCL Power contributed to your professional growth?
Completing courses such as City & Guilds and my 18th edition has been a great opportunity to increase my self-worth and broaden my scope of industry knowledge. I’ve also had the chance to travel in my role, attending many manufacturer training weeks in Istanbul and Milan, which has been fantastic as I love to travel and explore new countries.
What inspired you to work in the industry?
Being an IT/electronics whizz, I had an opportunity to help my school IT team when I was at school with a new server rack. We were supplied with an old UPS that was not working correctly. After researching schematics and repairing the SMD components inside it, then replacing the batteries, I felt great achievement in fixing it.
In your opinion, what sets BCL Power apart from its competitors
BCL started as a small family-run company that has grown steadily over the years and stays strong by following our core values. As we have grown and expanded our staff, an open-door policy means everyone can easily communicate with each other. I think this open communication and strong team culture inspires us to always seek to achieve the best results for our clients.
Where do you see BCL Power in five years?
Hopefully with a bigger warehouse! We have such a collection of new and old equipment that it boggles the mind. And as we continue to grow, we’ll need more space!
Tell us some fun facts about yourself
I keep reptiles (although my wife won’t let me keep them in the house). I am also slightly colour blind which prevented me from joining the RAF.
