How long have you been working with BCL Power?
I have been with BCL Power, since February 2012.
Tell us a bit about your background and what led you to join BCL Power:
After leaving secondary school in 2011, I was looking for an apprenticeship in an office-based role. I had a part-time job at American Golf at the time which I loved, and looking back now this first experience of work really cemented in my mind that I wanted a full-time job in a company where I could learn, grow, and be part of a fun and passionate team.
After finding an opportunity at BCL Power in December of that year, I started my customer service apprenticeship here in February 2012.
What do you enjoy most about working at BCL Power?
Completing our roles to the best of our ability is the main goal, but work is so much easier when it’s fun. We’ve got a great team at BCL and every day is a laugh, I think this is the biggest factor that contributes to the work we produce.
How has the company contributed to your professional growth?
I started at BCL Power as an apprentice in 2012 with no real idea of what I had an interest in, but the team culture and industry really appealed to me. Since then, the last 13 years have played a huge part in my personal and professional development.
I’ve been encouraged to work in several different roles at the company and over time have learnt how our industry operates, and how our own services provide vital support and peace of mind to our clients. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work across the company to help grow my skills and understand the sector from the inside out.
What is the best advice or lesson you have been given in your career at BCL?
I’ve been fortunate enough to learn a lot from managers and colleagues in all different types of roles at BCL Power. If I had to choose one, as simple as it sounds, is to always be yourself. Learning that clients, colleagues and suppliers prefer a more personal, human relationship has made account management, meeting new people and growing in my role a lot easier.
What was your dream job when you were a kid, and how has it changed?
As a kid, my dream was always to become a professional footballer, but I grew up and at the age of 25 I realised I wasn’t very good, and that it was time to set some new career goals!
If you were to host a dinner party with four famous guests, past or present, who would you invite?
As a huge fan of Formula 1 and Arsenal, I would choose Lewis Hamilton and Arsene Wenger, after those two I would invite my favourite Youtuber Simon Wilson and Will Ferrell. I think that would be a pretty interesting and funny mix, at least for me!
Your top three movies of all time?
Hard to narrow it down to just three so I will name a few of my favourites… Step Brothers, American Gangster and American Sniper.
